If there's any type of music that has a lot of crossover appeal for VK fans, it's probably these two genres. The early VK bands (those that weren't directly influenced by metal) were definitely influenced by the goings-on in both the western and domestic goth and post-punk scenes. This thread is dedicated to all of Japan's goth and post-punk bands, both old and modern: Madame Edwarda, Auto-Mod, G-Schmitt, Phaidia, Catastrophe Ballet, and so on. Do you have any favorites?

I always try to throw Gara around in these discussion. I’m into most things that veer into aggressive no-wave while retaining a goth aesthetic

Great thread. Definitely my wheelhouse - used to run a share blog about j-post-punk.

        One of my old favorites:

I'll forever hold a special place in my heart for Daisuck & Prostitute's first album. Peak James Chance & The Contortions-style no wave with skronking saxophones and manic energy. They don't make 'em like this anymore. Haven't gotten around to checking out their later material yet, but this is real good stuff.

@Tokage i love g-schmitt! i admittedly got into them after finding out their vocalist syoko was one of morrie's (dead end) favorites, as he listened to post-punk. their atmosphere is unmatched... belladona and εƒε€œδΈ€ε€œ are some of my favorite tracks from them.

Gotta love the old post-punks and goths! πŸ¦‡

Gonna add a neat modern band here too, tho sadly they already disbanded after one album, lol.

And can't forget the contemporary torchbearers still going strong:
