DEAD END

This band's stock has been going up all year in this household.
Ghost of Romance in the top 10 vk records of all time probably and Minato without a doubt in the top 5 drummers

@disposable that album’s atmosphere is unmatched… their jump from dead line to this is just??? The air literally feels different. After all if I remember correctly dead line is just a bunch of demos they were making added together lol (but don’t get me wrong also very enjoyable!)

@disposable absolutely adore this album, i have the US press LP. 100% my favorite dead end album
do you guys prefer the tracklist from the CD or LP version? i personally like the extra song but a lot of people don’t

@sunnyschoenheit the extra song is decoy right? I have neither the CD nor LP physically so I’m trusting the online sources… either way it’s the song that stood out to me the most tbh. Especially during my first listen
Then there’s the extra lil release grave of the shadow too, what do we think??

Admittedly never been hugely into them but they have some bangers I appreciated even as a youngster. Song of a lunatic, Spider in the brain, Serafine, I can hear the rain, Good morning satellite etc. Morrie especially was a huge influence on the early scene as well. Ryuichi from Luna sea was a huge fan.

@reiketsu There's points in the first album that preface what they'd do later like the chorus here
In general it's a great album that I had initially written off as one of those proto-vk heavy metal records, but it's more than that largely due to the Crazy Cool Joe/You combo. Iirc Joe had chastised himself later on by how his bass doesn't really double the melodies lead guitar but does its own thing throughout the album. I think that adds to its appeal and makes the album distinct.

The Ghost of Romance vinyl was featured in a Seinfeld episode for a brief moment, so instant classic status...

Jokes aside, a top-tier classic band! I love almost everything they did, but Ghost of Romance is probably my favorite album overall. Dead Line is cool heavy metal / hard rock mix, and the remaining two albums from their initial run are huge sources of inspiration for the early visual kei sound obviously.
Their stuff after they reunited isn't bad either, but I almost never listen to those records anymore. However, Morrie's later-era solo work and Creature Creature are really unique and mysterious.

@disposable i get your point! i think more artists should add differing melodies, especially concerning bass. it can be showcased way more properly than just act as a 'secondary' instrument. taiji also did a great job at that... soloing like he would on a guitar lol. also der zibet! their use of bass in their like really album releases feels so playful and adds so much to the songs...

@Jigsaw i was so surprised when i heard the fact about seinfeld series. sometimes i forget they released tons of stuff in the US too lol
to be honest, metamorphosis didnt really appeal to me, at least not as much as their prime stuff (sob)as for morries solo... i havent listened to everything but romantic na was cool. i like that he experimented with jazzier sounds and atmosphere. but i need to listen to everything soon, i feel like im missing out on a huge chunk of his stuff after dead end...

Great atmospheric stuff.
