LUNA SEA

LUNA SEA, arguably one of the most influental bands in the scene. Discuss anything LUNA SEA here

Love love love~
So glad I was able to catch them live on their short "world tour" back in the day!Very consistent band too, maybe SHINE and some of the later post-reunion albums are a bit weaker to me (but those have their own unique atmosphere too, and there's always a handful of bops & bangers).
So sad about Shinya too... I'm curious how they'll proceed.

I'm really sad that despite all my trips to Japan I never managed to make it to a Luna Sea show. I think already at the time their touring was very sparse and the gigs they did do, was sold out immediately. I hope it can be remedied someday even if its not quite the same without Shinya.
I'm kind of hoping that they're firmly in the self-tribute phase by now, they really have nothing more they need to prove musically, unless they come up with something really good they feel the need to release, I'm good with their discography staying the way it is. If I did ever manage to get to see them, I absolutely would prefer to see stuff from their original run take up the vast majority of the setlist.

Yeah, almost forgot, one thing I really appreciate about them is that they don't deny their past, and seem to enjoy sneaking in very old (even demo-era) songs into their setlists occasionally... or just outright performing full "oldies" sets in appropriately black attire.

@whirlingblack Hope you'll make it to one of those shows one day, if they still do them!

I sort ran into their later stuff at first by accident because I'd initially written it off with the old adage that old guys doing a reunion = washed.
Does it hold a candle to their initial run? No, but almost nothing in vk does. It's still got some merits. I'm particularly fond of this performance primarily due to how crazy Ryuichi's performance is.

@disposable Daaamn, look at him go! Thanks for this, I rarely watch live performances of their later-era material.
It's unfortunate that later his voice changed, after the treatments he's had (I remember that livestreamed Rockmaykan mini-gig was especially rough), but it can't be helped I guess. Although I think I saw some snippets of more recent lives and he sounded a bit better again.
I recently had the intent to watch Shinya's last live (from last spring), but I'm still hesitant... :')
