To start it off, I just watched Return to Silent Hill (2026). I have an interesting relationship with this franchise, because from what I know of the games, I love the concept, but I'm not a gamer at all. So my experience with it is mostly "second-hand", and I guess that mostly means the movie adaptations... for better or worse, lol.

Full disclosure, I liked the first movie, the second was uhhh tolerable, and now we're here. I've heard some pretty bad things about this new one, but I don't think it was worse than the previous. I enjoyed the whole mental health allegory angle they went for, usually when horror movies do that, it's a good way to win me over. On the other hand, it felt very "video game-y" in both structure and visuals, so it had this weird effect on me where I had to remind myself I was watching a movie and not an extended cutscene, heh. It was fine overall, but I probably won't remember much of it by next month.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (2026): My mind keeps wandering back to the previous movie ever since I watched it, there was just something about its plot, characters and execution that resonated well with me. This one is a direct continuation, with once again a delightfully "non-typical horror-like" plot set in an absolutely horrific world. Ralph Fiennes was the best, I really appreciate that we got to spend more time with his character as his scenes were some of my favorites in the preceding flick (all I'll say is that Dr. Kelson is my new favorite black metal frontman, lmao ). Once again a very nice watch, these two recent "28..." movies are a good pair imo.

Been meaning to watch these. I missed the chance to see them in the theater and I'm slightly paranoid about pirating these very new films in case I get some kind of a letter from some lawyer, lol. I enjoyed the previous films and heard good things about the new ones

I vaguely remember liking Noroi (The Curse) from him, which was done in a similar vein, so I was interested to check this one, as it had a comparable scoring online too. It wasn't bad, the slightly eerie atmosphere was definitely there, and it was interesting to see the gradual developments. It starts with a mysterious stabbing spree, and from there it slowly spirals into weird unexplainable premonitions and a horrific climax (whose execution was absolutely chilling, because of how matter-of-factly they go about it). There were some neat meta-moments in it as well, since the director plays himself, and there's even a cameo by Kiyoshi Kurosawa (also playing himself) of all people, lmao. I gotta admit, the very end looked goofy as hell, but by then it couldn't ruin the overall experience (I just wish that final minute looked better). Otherwise, solid stuff.

Honey Bunch (2025): very good atmosphere and visuals that evoke a kind of dreamy but uneasy feel, as a somewhat gothic story slowly unfurls with hidden mysteries (to say more would veer into spoiler territory). Still, something was missing for me, some extra spark. Overall a solid watch tho. The vibe was "Shudder movie trying its hardest to cosplay an A24 movie", heh.

Then I think it's probably best to skip it, cuz if there's one thing I know it's that people who played the game (speaking of SH2 in particular) absolutely hate it, haha

Also, I'm curious about Iron Lung, looking forward to catching it on digital~

skipped Revelation cause it seemed so bad,

It's so bad. To be fair I watched it when it came out, which is nearly 15 years ago , but I doubt that anything would change if I watched it now. The first film is obviously an Americanized version of the Silent Hill mythos and aesthetic fitted into an American horror film, but iirc it looks good and there's an atmosphere there. The ultimate Silent Hill movie is a lets play with no commentary tbh lol

Recently I went to the theater to see Iron Lung- just waiting for it to come out on streaming so I can rewatch it (especially with subs as some parts were really hard to understand). I really liked it though, a lot more than I expected.

I don't have any movies planned to watch soon, but I'm thinking about going through the episodes of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs to watch all the ones that I've missed. So sad that Shudder cancelled it, it was a great fun way to watch horror movies. Hoping that they find a new home for that format soon!

I've been trying to get myself to go to the theater to see the new horror drops but I haven't been successful, also in part due to the fact that the cinema chains here are double the price to indie theaters.

There's a lot of independent screenings where I'm based though. I saw Henenlotter's Bad Biology last weekend and this week there's Jodorowsky's Santa Sangre.
